Crafty font ?

This is not a trick or a treat its just font Last Visual Assignment for the semester. It one of my favorite Assignments its “What A Crappy Font Will Do” (4 stars).

I really like this idea what fonts can do to the meaning of a sign or even a label. For this exercise I used “Petco” as an example of what a crappy font can do.

1. I googled “Petco” and I made sure I was on the “Image” tab

2. I then took clicked on the image and then took a snap shot of it

3. After that I then opened the image on my desktop and uploaded to iphoto so I could crop it.

4. After cropping it I clicked on my microsoft  word document app at the bottom of my screen top open it. I then dragged the picture that was in iphoto into the word document. I then used different fonts .

I am continually impressed with font because fonts are every where in our society. The are one of the icons we look at to show us direction, if these fonts are not correctly placed and at the right font the message is lost.

Facebook By Another Font

The Story

Today I tried a Visual Assignment this is the first one of week 2 (4 stars trying to push my abilities). I think I am becoming a pro. This Visual Assignments focuses on fonts and how different fonts amplifying meaning to the logo.  For example, If a logo is crappy meaning is taken from the font. But, if the Font is clear and appropriate it sends the right message and it is understood by all. Font is one of the most important graphic components of graphic design.

A Tutorial

To create this example I first searched google for general logo’s (I guess I was not to sure what the assignment was asking for at the time and I wanted to get an idea of what was other, logo wise). I first looked at a Mcdonald’s logo I ended up downloading it (just because it was a logo), then I went through the process of cropping it using iphoto. After cropping it I decided to put into a word document, it is there that I found out that I could not change the font on that logo so I decided to go with a new one. I repeated that same process, but this time using the “Burger King” logo. That did not work so I tried looking for another logo. I found the “facebook” logo and I repeated the process as with the previous ones. This time it was a success I was able to reduplicate the word “Facebook” into other fonts. I chose the font “Chalkduster” because it was the most crappest one and because it really just changed the whole meaning of the previous font. I then chose to typed facebook in Edwardian Script because it was the font that looked closes to cursive.

Concusion :

This was a great exercise because it just brought home the fact that caution needs to be taken when decided what fonts to use. Fonts give meaning to the work that is being displayed.
